Heaven By Way of Mars

According to followers of some religions, they will go to heaven when they die (supposedly because they got into the gods' good books because they 'believed in Him').

That's why their obituaries in the papers are littered with claims like 'called home to be with the Lord'. In fact, they are 'a dime a dozen' - you find them all the time. Cheap thrill.

But I have yet to see an obituary that claim that some one had been 'called home to be with the Lord by way of Mars'. That would be something to brag about, wouldn't it?

Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to go to space, said that she willing to make a one-way trip to Mars.

The 76-year old made the statement in Zvyozdny Gorodok (Star City) outside Moscow, home to a cosmonaut training centre, adding it is her favourite planet, reports News.com.au.
Tereshkova, who became a national heroine at the tender age of 26 when she made a solo space flight in 1963, said that she had been part of the group who studied the possibility of going to the Red Planet. (ANI)

Another Bull from Issuer of Bulls

They used to sit in that position until they die or get kicked out by opponents (see 2nd report) but this one voluntarily 'resigns' supposedly because of ill health.

Heck, if he can still write books (as reportedly he will continue to do) he can sure continue writing those 'bulls' that included one he issued more than a decade ago where he reportedly instructed all churches in the US not to report cases of paedophile to the police. When reporting this 10 years ago, the LA Times also reported that more than 90% of US churches had alleged cases of paedophile!

Health is not the reason. Something else is happening inside that oldest con-house in history. Recently, the Vatican Bank was accused of money laundering.

Yesterday, a KL friend Hong said it is a ponzi scheme and had told his children to be aware of the sleaze in the organisation and 'decide if they want to help change it from inside' (then I know he is a 'member'). I corrected him with the points below.

Those people are not running a ponzi scheme. In a ponzi scheme, sharper members who realise that it is just a scam can at least withdraw what they put in plus some interest and leave before the proverbial shit hits the fan. But in this oldest con scheme in history, suckers pay 10% of their income and will never get anything back even if they want to leave!

And don't even think of 'changing it from the inside'. Those who know history knows they have no qualms killing off competitors. The head of the Vatican Bank was murdered about 20 years ago amid some money laundering allegations (again).

I did not tell that friend that there is another thing - a Chinaman has no place at the top end of that organisation, not to say change it. Only a half-child chinaman would harbour that thought.

Pope Benedict XVI to become first pope in 600 years to resign

In a surprise announcement revealed at a meeting of cardinals, Pope Benedict XVI has said he will resign at the end of the month.

VATICAN CITY -- Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday that he will step down on Feb. 28 due to failing health, stunning the world's 1 billion Catholics by becoming the first pope in nearly 600 years to resign from the office.

The German pontiff, 85, made his surprise statement to cardinals during a Vatican concistory on Monday, saying “my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry,” a reference to his duties as leader of the church.

Speaking at a ceremony held to canonize three new saints, Benedict said he would step down at 8 p.m. on Feb. 28. Father Federico Lombardi, a Vatican spokesman, said a conclave of cardinals would be held in March to elect a new pope in time for Easter.

Italian cardinal Angelo Sodano, the dean of the College of Cardinals, said Benedict's announcement was a "bolt out of the blue."

Describing his decision as being “of great importance for the life of the church,” Benedict told cardinals that “in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary.”

His strength, he added, “has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.”

Vatican insiders have noted that Benedict has become more frail in recent months; he requires a moving platform to transport him down the aisle at St Peter’s Basilica during services and has slowed during his walks in the Vatican gardens. His private life was recently exposed to public scrutiny after his butler was convicted by a Vatican court for leaking papal correspondence.

Lombardi said Benedict had not been persuaded to step down by a particular illness, but said "he had become more tired and fatigued than in the past."

Benedict’s decision, which he described as being "of great importance for the life of the church," marks the first papal resignation since Pope Gregory XII reluctantly stepped down in 1415 to end a dispute with a rival claimant to the papacy. The last pope to resign willingly was Celestine V in 1294 after reigning for only five months.

Benedict told cardinals he wished to “devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.” Lombardi said the pope would transfer from his papal apartment to live in a building in the Vatican’s gardens formerly occupied by nuns. The pope, who has recently finished a series of three books about the life of Jesus, could continue to write books, Lombardi said.

Beyond giving details of the coming conclave, Lombardi said the Vatican was entering unchartered waters with a pope set to replace a living, former pope. “We are heading into an unknown situation,” he said at a hastily called Vatican news conference.

Describing the moment the pope made his announcement, Lombardi said “the pope sat down, took the microphone and read his statement shortly after 11:30,” adding “he said it in Latin so not everyone understood immediately.”

Lombardi said he had no fear that Vatican officials -- unaccustomed to sharing the Holy See with a former pope -- might continue to defer to Benedict. “This is recognized by canon law, there is no risk of confusion,” he said.

Lombardi said the German pontiff, who was elected in 2005 at age 78, had shown “courage, a humble spirit, responsibility and a desire that the church be governed in the best way,” adding that he had met the pope recently and found him “serene.” The pontiff’s decision, he said, “did not completely surprise me.”

Benedict has previously suggested that a pope could break with tradition and step down if he no longer felt able to carry out his duties.

In a book-length interview, "Light of the World," with the German journalist Peter Seewald, Benedict responded to a question about whether a pope could resign: “Yes. If a Pope clearly realizes that he is no longer physically, psychologically, and spiritually capable of handling the duties of his office, then he has a right and, under some circumstances, also an obligation to resign.”

The pope’s decision will trigger weeks of speculation about who will take his place as the Vatican recovers from the scandal of pedophile priests and seeks to retain believers as the church challenges rights to abortion and gay marriage.

Asked if Benedict had set an example for future popes to resign instead of dying in office, often after debilitating illness, Lombardi said: “This is not intended to influence successors,” but he added, “Next time [it happens], it won’t be the first time in centuries, it could be an approach to the problem.”

One Vatican expert said Benedict had probably been mulling his decision to resign since his election eight years ago. “When he took over the church had been through the suffering from illness of his predecessor John Paul II,” said John Thavis.

“It will have put in his mind questions about the governance of the church if the pope becomes incapable,” he said.

The decision by Pope Benedict XVI to resign is a reminder of some colorful and controversial moments in Roman Catholic Church history.

The last pope to resign was Gregory XII, who gave up the papacy reluctantly in 1415 to help end a dispute between rival popes known as the Great Western Schism. The competing claims to the papacy had riven the church for nearly four decades before Gregory stepped down, a second pope was excommunicated and the church elected a new pope.

More than 100 years earlier, Celestine V resigned in 1294 after only five months, saying his decision stemmed from “the desire for humility, for a purer life, for a stainless conscience, the deficiencies of his own physical strength, his ignorance, the perverseness of the people, his longing for the tranquillity of his former life.”

The former pope became a hermit before being captured and imprisoned by his successor in the castle of Fumone, where he died within a year. The new pope, Gregory VI, was accused of paying for a holy office and ended up resigning a year later.

Other popes were believed to have been exiled or forced out, though historical records are murky. Any such decision is controversial. Paul VI, who was pope from 1963 to 1978, compared it to paternity. He said it could not be resigned.

Yet since at least 1917, church law has allowed for a pope to resign, according to Woodstock Theological Center fellow the Rev. Thomas J. Reese. Experts say a pope must not be induced to step down through fear or fraud, and must be of sound mind when he makes the decision, Reese wrote.

Apparently, this fella had numerous charges against him for years and this is the latest one that 'sticked'.

According to him and his followers (inspired by some 'great book'), he is the "Prophet, Seer and Revelator" of their church. And like other distant fellow 'men of the book' of theirs, they believe in polygamy and 'arranging celestial marriages between married men and teenage girls' (normal people call that 'child sexual abuse' which is what that idiot is convicted of this week).

That fella even recorded his acts, one of which (see above LA Times report) had him claiming that he 'perform this service in the name of... his deity' (that one nailed to wood I talk about) while performing his animal act. Presumably, that holy bastard was recording his acts for the benefit of his god - may be as proof of his great 'services' to his deity in case that all-knowing and all-powerful deity of his loses some of those abilities.

According to today's BBC report, the parents of those children were actually happy with what that fella did because they also believed that their children were 'servicing god'.

That is the problem when animals and idiots are given 'holy' excuses to do the stupidest and wildest things (and they think they are smarter than apes). Religion fits that bill perfectly. With those 'celestial' claims, both idiots and animals find their respective excuses easily - 'if some one says he is godly and he is doing it in the name of their god, then it must be okay' is how the stupid reasoning goes.

That is why those reports of more than 90% of the churches (they call them 'house of god') in the US having cases of child sexual abuses are most telling.

Imagine 90% of all households in the world having fathers (which is what they call their church leaders) sexually abusing their children? I am not sure such a thing is as prevalent even among apes and monkeys. And you will certainly not find that among the great civilisations (go see if 90% of Indian and Chinese families are like that).

So young chilren reading this mail, don't ever believe those people that go round telling others that their book is a 'book of god' and their book 'has only good effects on people'.

The above is one (of many reasons) why I call Chinamen that do that complete idiots.... (analogy: a blindman claiming the rope he is holding is an elephant does not make that rope an elephant. It only makes him an idiot).

For Chinese children: one of the reasons why you will never see 90% of Chinese households having the kind of things above is because of the teachings of people like Confucius, Mencius and thousands of years of moral teachings coming out of the Chinese civilisation. We are all fortunate inheritors of those teachings. So, go read about the history of our people, their books (none of them arrogant enough to claim to contain 'words of god') and their teachings.

A Texas jury convicted polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs of child sexual assault Thursday in a case stemming from two young followers he took as brides in what his church calls "spiritual marriages."

The 55-year-old head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints stood stone-faced as the verdict was read.

Jeffs, who acted as his own attorney, faces up to life in prison. The jury went immediately into sentencing proceedings. They had deliberated on a verdict for more than three hours.

Prosecutors used DNA evidence to show Jeffs fathered a child with a 15-year-old girl and played an audio recording of what they said was him sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. They also played audio recordings in which Jeffs was heard instructing young women on how to please him sexually.

Jeffs has claimed he was the victim of religious persecution. The FLDS, which has at least 10,000 members nationwide, is a radical offshoot of mainstream Mormonism. The church believes polygamy brings exaltation in heaven and that Jeffs is God's spokesman on earth.

Police had raided the group's remote West Texas ranch in April 2008, finding women dressed in frontier-style dresses and hairdos from the 19th century as well as seeing underage girls who were clearly pregnant. The call to an abuse hotline that spurred the raid turned out to be a hoax, and more than 400 children who had been placed in protective custody were eventually returned to their families.

But authorities brought charges against several men from the group, with Jeffs by far the highest-profile defendant.

Jeffs stood mute and expressionless, staring at the floor, for all but a few seconds of the half hour he was allotted for a closing argument on Thursday. At one point he mumbled, "I am peace," and said no more.

The only noise in the courtroom was the creaking of wooden benches brimming with spectators.

Prosecutors said the case had nothing to do with his church or his beliefs.

"You have heard the defendant make repeated arguments about religious freedoms," said lead prosecutor Eric Nichols. "Make no mistake, this case is not about any people, this case is not about any religion. It is about one individual, Warren Steed Jeffs, and his actions."

Prosecutors relied heavily on information found during the raid on the compound and after a traffic stop in Nevada in 2006, when Jeffs was arrested. Much of the material was discovered in a vault at the end of a secret passageway in the temple and another vault in an annex building.

"You might have asked yourselves," Nichols said, "a lot of people may ask, why would someone record sex? ... This individual considers himself to be the prophet. Everything he did, hour after hour, he was required to keep a record of that."

On one of the tapes played at the trial, Jeffs made a reference to "drawing close" or "being close," which authorities testified is how church members refer to sex. Two female voices said "OK."

"A good wife is trained for her husband and follows the spirit of peace," Jeffs was heard saying.

Another audio tape included Jeffs and the younger girl from a recording made in August 2006 at the Texas compound, according to testimony from Nick Hanna, a Texas Ranger involved in the 2008 raid.

Played in court, it was difficult to decipher, but Jeffs' and a female voice are heard. He says, "I perform this service in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen," then mentions the alleged victim by name. When she says something, he responds, "don't talk while praying." Several minutes of heavy breathing followed.

The jury wore headphones to better hear the recording and also followed a transcript. One female juror covered her face with her hand as she listened.

Jeffs represented himself after firing seven attorneys in the six months leading to the trial. He broke his courtroom silence with an objection marked by a nearly hourlong speech defending polygamy, and twice threatened the judge and the court with warnings of punishment from God.

He refused to cross-examine the state's witnesses, and delayed giving an opening statement until he began presenting his own defense. In that statement, he evoked images of the civil rights movement and mentioned former Mormon leader Joseph Smith Jr. He also asked the jury to remember constitutional guarantees of religious freedom.

The lone defense witness Jeffs called, church elder JD Roundy, spent about 10 minutes on the stand Thursday discussing FLDS history after 4½ hours of testimony Wednesday evening.

Jeffs failed three times to remove state District Judge Barbara Walther from the case, the last rejection coming even without a hearing. He claimed Walther was biased because she issued the warrant for the original raid and was frequently updated as it progressed.

Eleven other FLDS men were charged with crimes including sexual assault and bigamy. All seven of those who have been prosecuted were convicted, receiving prison sentences of between six and 75 years.

Even if you end up being considered by your deity to be too low class to do that holy return act and cannot make it back, you'd still get to start your 'eternal life' that billions of other past and present chinamen cannot get to - what privilege...

And oh, in case your skin color finally does not matter to your deity (after those thousands of years of irrelevance) and you get to make that return trip, don't forget to bring back an updated version of that great book of yours with your great feat and name included. Then a chinaman would finally get to 'star' in that book (instead of me looking high and low for you in Noah's queue list and still cannot find. Which category are you under?)

If your deity considers your act too cheap for his edtitorial bother, you can always ask him to part Andromeda (or an equivalent) for you to cross on your way back to earth. Preceded, of course, by a huge supernova event to ensure the entire world would not miss that deitical show with you in starring role. Real Use of Temples

Aptly dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu (the Preserver) - the other key ones being Brahma (the Creator) and Siva (the Destroyer) - this temple managed to preserve a lot of 'kurunge' (money in Tamil).

Smart deity. Don't trust paper money and convert those things into real stuffs for storage. And that is just what the deity preserved (left behind). One wonders how much the deity have 'used' to-date.

I wonder which of the Hindu deities is the re-incarnation of 'AGNI' the Auditor General N Inspector.

Everywhere such 'holy' institutions are filled with money hoarders. Coincidence?

According to the report, the 'secret chamber' where the valuables were held had not been tempered for 140 years. You believe that?

If that is true, that means the people who hid those valuables did not want others to know about it. Why?

If those few (if not few how to keep secret?) people are the only ones that know about it, do you think they would not help themselves to some of it?

The more likely scenario is that there had been some falling out between the different people managing the 'secret chamber' and the ones who lost out (and therefore could not use those valuable anymore) threatened to spill the beans. So the others had no choice but to 'reveal' the existence of those valuables.

Note: Throughout history temples are good places to hide or store valuables because only a few 'top religious leaders' (i.e. insiders) are allowed into the temples' inner sanctums (where valuables are stored) supposedly because those places are 'super sacred'. In addition, temples enjoy fanatical protection from worshippers who would protect the temples with their lives when called to do so by those 'holy leaders' - those dumb suckers think they are protecting their gods. A good example is the Greek Parthenon which the Delian League used as their 'treasury'.

Gold and silver jewellery, coins and precious stones have been discovered in an Indian temple.

The treasure, thought to be worth billions of dollars, had been hidden in secret compartments in the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in southern India.

Indian officials have hinted that the valuable find might be worth over ten billion dollars.

While one more secret chamber is yet to be opened, thousands of necklaces, coins and precious stones have already been brought out of the underground vaults.

The secret chambers had not been tampered with for over 140 years.

The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is dedicated to Hindu lord Vishnu.

It was built hundreds of years ago with devotees continuing to contribute to its upkeep.

VATICAN CITY - The Vatican formally unveiled its new Internet information portal news.va on Wednesday, a day after Pope Benedict XVI launched the initiative with his first Twitter message sent from an iPad.

A smiling pope was seen tapping on his iPad with the help of cardinals surrounding him in video footage released by the Vatican. The screen saver on the tablet was a picture of the pope as a young man with his family.

The 84-year-old pontiff, dressed in a white cassock at the head of a long wooden table in the Vatican, can be seen tapping on a link with the word "Publish" which does not appear to work but then scrolls through the website.

The pope used his official name in Latin - the Vatican's official language - to launch the site on Tuesday with a tweet reading: "Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI."

The website brings together news from Vatican media including the official daily Osservatore Romano, Vatican radio and television and the Catholic Church's missionary news agency which covers the developing world.

News.va will also be updating the faithful on Vatican events and important events concerning Catholics around the world through Twitter, YouTube videos and photos on Flickr. The website was developed by a Spanish web design agency.

The Vatican has embraced social media in recent months in an attempt to reach a wider and more youthful audience, as it struggles against growing secularism in society and deals with a wave of paedophile priest scandals.

If you believe one bunch, some deity squeezed one of his offsprings into a virus-sized man-body (virus-size is perhaps giving 'em manhood too big a size given the domain the deities supposedly lord over but let's not quibble) just to show some big headed people how much the deity loved them.

If you believe the other bunch, that is all crap and the only thing squeezed into that man-body was just a small postcard (message), and their other postcard carrying fella was bigger.

Depending on who you believe, the character in question is either a son of a deity or just a small time delivery boy of a deity. The 2nd bunch is perfectly reasonable in thinking that if a deity can send 1 messenger the deity can always send another.

In that case, the 2nd bunch should be more correct since their idol should have more up-to-date messages from the deity since he came after the other bunch's idol. (This is based on my 'latest paper has the latest news' theory but that can of course be crap in which case I have another theory for it - 'latest paper has the latest crap')

But then why stop with the 2nd bunch's idol and not send more messengers? The deity gone lazy and decided to leave the task of communicating deitical messages to mullahs and priests? Or impotent? And what cheapo deity would bother to second such an important job as saving his 'children' to priests that fondle boys, hor?

Umh messenger theories sound crappy... So let's try the son of deity theory

If those big headed modern apes are so important to him, that deity can surely have some more sons and sacrifice them one after the other just to show his 'love' time and again can't he? What can't do? Who say no can do?

In fact, a 3rd bunch of fellas that lived 150 years ago in China during the Taiping Revolution said 'yes can do'. Do not rely on people whose primary outlook is not based on rational thinking but on faith to make sense of what is fair and proper.

History shows that other than loud bragging and destruction they do not improve anything on earth. All major human progress take place only when there are people willing to break out of the constraints imposed by blind faith.

People that operate based on faith will say things like these :
- My 'true story' said this, your story did not. My story did not say that, your story did.
- My story is 1% right here but yours 1s 1% right only there which is not as holy as my 1% here.
- Therefore my story is better than yours and yours is not as good.
- So my story is the real god story, yours is not.

That has been the story of the various religions for eons. Each of them claiming that their god is the true god and others' are not. But how can that be?

By faith, a Mohamaddan is damn sure his religion is the right one and the others are false. By faith, a Jew is cock-sure his is the special one while the others are crap. By faith, so does a Christian.

But whose religion is the 'real true one' and who is right? They cannot all be right, can they? The rational part of us must admit that it does not make sense for all of them to be so different and yet all be right at the same time.

But a Muslim's faith is as strong as a Christian's and a Jew's. In fact, so 'strong' that some of them force others to accept their stories based on their own logic, and history had shown that they are willing to fight and kill each other just to prove that they are right and the others wrong (there is a saying that 'wars do not prove who is right but who is left').

Instead of facing up to the possibility that all are possibly wrong and faith is just blind parroting of some man-made stories and notions, some of them claim that they 'respect the others'. Perhaps by that they hope that the others will reciprocate and say they are 'right'.

But deep inside these people of faiths will still think that theirs are the true one and the others are idiots who have been misled or under enlightened.

If we want a better future on earth, humans must operate using our rational mind, not by faith.

Thanks for the enlightening & humbling murals. It is not always 'U don't know how good your life is'. It may be 'U don't know how come your life is so good'

If we live a better life compared to those shown, it is because we had a luckier draw and stand on the shoulders and progresses accorded to us by some of the people before us and Science (plagiarised from Newton & others, honesty is the best policy).

Many are too unaware and arrogant to recognise that, and try to escape it by imagining it is blessings from their gods found via their great searches (see, it is all because of their own great discovering abilities)

As Zhou EnLai said of the Americans, they are a great people but they have no sense of history. You want to copy this?

As Isaac Asimov said, what have the church got to contribute to all the human progress we have around us the last few hundred years other than cheap words? (actually, also cheap stakes).

Before the advent of modern science and technology, most of the human race lived under difficult conditions. Except the ones at the top of the power pyramids who had the benefit of exploiting the ones below them.

This included the practice of slavery which was rampant throughout history. And the church said nothing about slavery (not the popes as slaves of god but men as slaves of the popes hor.)

6. It was reported that more than 90% of their so-called 'houses of god' in the US have abuse cases. Can you imagine what this world will be like if 90% of the households in this world are like that?

In LA alone, 221 fellas were reported to be involved in committing such 'acts' over 70 years. Only 3 fellas doing it per year if we assume 3 other fellas stop within a year (where got so faithful one).

Thanks for the nice pictures. Hopefully, people get a small picture of where we stand in the context that the gods deal with.

Note that the comparison herein is just one between a few stars & planets, a comparison of entities in the sub-virus dimension to the gods' realm. Probably meant to aid the less imaginative super-submini-viruses who cannot 'see' despite their claimed 'great searches'.

And note that those are 'balls' we are dealing with hor, not flat discs unlike what some supposedly god inspired fellas no less than the Pontiffs (and their predecessors the Pontifex Maximus and likes) insisted for a few thousand years till Copernicus, Galileo and the likes (commonly known as the 'heretics' then) enlightened them otherwise. And only after a few of the latter's predecessors were burnt off by the former for 'lack of respect'.

There are many ways to show how these fellas lack depth - this flat out missing out of 1 entire godly dimension is just one of the more obvious ones.

Oceanic Disasters

They are long and you need to register (free). If you think good things are never free and only money buy you value I suggest you read the articles to see if you get value from them - science is free, it had been since the Popes gave up on burning the fellas that started it off - the Popes did not do that for free though.

It is about the great changes in the oceans around us. Like some of the scientists quoted in here, I also used to think that the great oceans that cover 70% of the earth's surface and holding more than 95% of all the water on earth would be the last place to suffer from our actions. I was not wrong. It was the last to suffer, just that it is much sooner than I thought.

Like a researcher was quoted, the next generation parents will be asking their children to eat their jellyfish, and not their fish. And chinamen that are now having jellyfish as appetisers and fish as main course will find their children having them the other way round - that is if they survive long enough.

The worst culprits are those living in the so-called developed countries, for obvious reasons. Moi in Singapore is one of them.

We have no hope if you still can't get this after reading the articles in the link. I personally have little for I know how many simpletons there are living in these places hitch-hiking on science and abusing the use of its 'products' under the guise of 'first world ingenuity' while conveniently thinking it is their god-given right or blessings, as some of them call it.

Hah, talking about blessings. I once a while get notes from such people telling the gods to bless me and everything else - huh, what god-instructors these presumptuous simpletons are. They think that what we get, do or consume (what we destroy not counted of course) are blessings from the gods!

A Reflection of the Present

Some one once said that I am an atheist because I laughed at his religion and the likes (god knows what logic that was - dont like his religion therefore atheist).

And we should not refer to history for past religious stupidities to justify more such laughters. Don't know why history 'no pakai' - the moment one looks at oneself in the mirror it is history one is looking at (whether one laughs at it or not is another matter) but that seems too trivial to ponder (compared to those other things he deals with).

Heck, even the book these fellas read with wonder are tales from time be-yonder used to impress simpler minds of the past!

'Such comments no respect', say others.

So what next? So I try to look at the future lor.

Like when teachers of the future start teaching the kids of these fellas about the stars, galaxies and the universe, and share with them the size of these things so insignificant (or unknown?) to such present day faithfools. If you don't know about such things, it's because you are living in the past - way past the present - but your kids of the future may just reflect like I do below.

The average size of a galaxy is 100,000 to 120,000 light years across - ours the Milky Way is less than that, only 90,000.

The next level astronomical entity is the galaxy group or cluster which average at about 6 million light years across.

And god knows (do your deity knows?) how many galaxy groups there are in the universe.

If all this is not in your book, too bad. Who ask you to read low end fictions?

In this order of things, a man to god is much lesser than a virus is to a man, may be barely a supersub-microvirus.

So those who believe that they are made in the image of god must be full of themselves to dare imagine that anything lesser than a virus could be anywhere close to man-like (analogically speaking), and a man would bother to squeeze his only son into a supersub-microvirus to save all such sub-virus-likes.

And such an important man as god running an empire the size of the universe would bother to find time to talk to these sub-viruses every day as some sub-viruses claim they could do?

Or would let those sub-viruses come to his 'home to be with him' when the sub-virus die? Swipe those brain-dead pests with alchohol is what that poor man would say, I'd say. What say you other sub-virus?

Before that, which of these are you at in the first place?

Another Chinaman I know of was so impressed with his newfound idol (they all are those new broomy sub-viruses) that he claimed that the reason why I am not like him was because I did not really 'searched'. He said 'search for him and you shall find that he is the true god. Look at my wife, she did not really search until she knew me and now she is a faithful'.

I told him this:

"I don't really know you and if I do I could perhaps give some more earthly reasons as to why you claimed what you did, there are not many possibilities, but it would not be very nice. However, may be we can do a bit of mental exercise and go back a few hundred years in time (history again?).

With 4,000 years of recorded history (if you don't know this go read history), do you know if any chinamen then or before had recorded anywhere about finding this supposedly great idol of yours? No? Then it couldn't be that none of the billions of chinamen of the past had not really searched."

In my mind this was what I was also thinking:

"Your forefathers and parents not as good as you hah? Those useless fellas sure make you feel good hor? And only present day chinamen like you and your wife are so 'special' as to be able to really search and smart enough to find him? And only super-you could 'bring light' to your wife?

No wonder you don't believe in evolution and associated concepts like gene inheritance (sure, your cheap book never mentioned these). If not, it would be too easy to explain how such useless forefathers could have produced someone like you hor?"

I could see the blank stunned look on the wife's face (that proved that women are better at reading between the lines?).

But this fella persisted and said that nothing he could do will convince me. At least he got this one right, I have my strong convictions which I hold to faithfully too. And he proceeded to give the history of his 'defining moment' and volunteered the kind of answer I mentioned in my opening statement to him.

Apparently, he was asked to stand in for his boss in the last minute for a SWIFT application upgrade 20 plus years ago, days when they used 8 inch diskettes and Wang machines which were much slower than present day PCs. And despite following the installation instructions, the system would not come up. In desperation, he went on his knees to ask for 'his' help and miraculously it worked after that. This apparently convinced our fella that his faith was not misplaced.

This is a true story.

Of course, I was too nice not to tell him then what we systems fellas know - that if the thing worked it was most proabablybecause the programmer that did the installation programs was smart enough to do auto restart and that bloody Wang machine was very slow. So by the time his frenzied prayer was up, so was the system!

You see, those are the kinds of supposedly faithful people I come across. Full of misplaced convictions and more than a bit full of themselves (making a fool of themselves is the other thing).

I am sure there are many more out there like that - some just a bit too ashamed to talk about it or more likely couldn't even convince themselves.

So they leave history and respect for ancestors to less divine people like me lor....

Comparative Value of a Dinosaur Brain

The term ‘dinosaur’ was coined by a biologist named Richard Owen sometime in the mid 19th century and it apparently means ‘terrible lizard’ in some language I am not familiar with. Richard Owen was apparently ‘an extraordinarily clever scientist’ and was ‘the leading comparative anatomist of his day’.

According to historians, people in the ‘west’ did not come up with the idea nor accept the existence of dinosaurs till then because the concept of an animal going extinct was not in line with their ‘great book’ which claims among others that this world was created for man and had been unchanging since the ‘great creation’. The ‘great creation’ according to that little book could be dated to be anything from 6,000 years ago to many many more years than that (these fellas with their ‘words of god’ at their finger tips could not finger when such an important event in the scheme of things actually took place!)

On the other hand, the Chinese is known to have records of dinosaur fossils for a few thousand years and grind them up for use as medicine. That may also be the origin of their concept of the ‘dragon’ – hey, China men like the others mentioned here do have a great sense of imagination.

We shall however stay with the history of the west for it is a lot more enlightening and funnier because of their ‘dedication’ to that particular little book for a good 2 millenia. Like some Asiatic simpletons I know today, people in that part of the world could not, up to that time, get themselves to accept anything not in line with concepts contained in that book.

[Side note:
For the same reason, they insisted (among many equally stupid concepts obvious to almost all China men today, simpletons included) that the sun and all the other celestial bodies went round the earth – whatever for, it was at least an ego boosting concept for these fellas. To be fair, according to modern science they were not 100% wrong. You see, according to the Big Bang theory every thing is moving away from the earth (the closest to the ‘earth-centric’ claim science can attest for these supposedly god enlightened simpletons). Since everything is moving away from earth, perhaps we can arguably say that earth is at the ‘center’ and therefore ‘special’? But then, Big Bang also says that everything is moving away from everything else. So, if we apply the same simplistic logic, the other celestial bodies should also be ‘special’. Wah, everything also special? In that case, could that include China men like me who claim no special links to Rome or other less earthly entities created by some people’s ego-boosting imaginations? Lucky me, no need for the other Chinamen to ‘bless me’ through Rome]

Things apparently started in the 18th century thanks to (who other than) the Americans. It started when some Americans found a large bone more than a meter in length in the land named after a Spanish fella called Amerigo Vespucci who had claimed the land for his Spanish King and his 'Lord' to no avail for the British had other ideas and were guided by a different divine force that proved to be more superior.

[Side note:
The ‘Americans’ above were not really Americans but British who by then had whacked the real British who in turn had earlier whacked and chased the Spanish down south. The Spanish had earlier whacked the real Americans including the Incans, Aztecs and Mexicans. If you think this is a case of what goes around comes around, you are wrong. The real Americans the Spanish whacked were not the same as the Americans of this story. According to some, the former were ‘red Indians’ who were not the same as the ‘non-red Indians’ in Asia which almost confuses the hell out of me. Conspiracy theory at work?]

When the first dinosaur bone was found, the Americans involved decided to send it to some supposed experts in Europe for study - apparently, at that time America was considered third world compared to its ‘big brothers’ in Europe. Of course, there were no dinosaur experts then. But there were well respected doctors of ‘anatomy’ of other kinds. And as it went, the experts to whom the bone was dispatched summarily declared it as nothing but just the leg bone of some over sized elephant. To them, the possibility of the bone belonging to a large specie entirely new to them and that had gone extinct did not cross their minds because their ‘great book’, if we had not forgotten, did not allow for it.

However, it did help the cause of ‘dinosaurship’ that at about the same time there happened to be some sort of a spat between the Americans and some ‘arrogant’ French fellas who claimed that all things American were inferior to ‘great’ Europe.

[Side note:
The British of which the Americans were part of had been vying with the French to be the ‘boss’ of Europe for hundreds of years which also explains why they like me also, foolishly some China men may say, don’t believe in the divinity of the pope and Rome. And today, if you believe George Bush, it is the reverse – the French is now part of the ‘Old World’, the reason being their unwillingness to whack the Afghans and Iraqis with Bush (and not because they follow the pope). But what about the pope, is he new or old world? Cheap thrill?

One America-is-inferior example given by the French then was the ‘natives’ in America had smaller male genitalia, and less body hair – if this sounded like China men too you are not far off, the ‘west’ then also considered Africans and Asians uncivilized and sub-humans to be ‘saved’ through Christianisation. In fact, in exhorting the Bush-type Americans to ‘take up the responsibility’ and ‘annex’ the Philippines after they (the Americans and not British) have whacked the Spaniards in the late 19th century, the English poet Rudyard Kipling (that some China men of ‘literature’ may be familiar with) famously called these other people ‘the White man’s burden’ - which explains why some China men are so proud they have some claim to the big ‘C’ or whatever little minor role in it. Lesser beings should always try to be a lesser burden to anyone, not just the white man.]

Apparently the French claim pissed off a certain Thomas Jefferson (who by then had considered himself ‘American’) enough for him to dispatch an expedition into the American hinterland to search for proof that things American are indeed ‘bigger’ and therefore greater than ‘old Europe’.

[Side Note:
Jefferson felt insulted because like his ‘puritan’ forefathers he believed that they were creating ‘a shining city upon the hill’ (copied from a certain Sermon of the Mount in their little book) that will be a shining example to the ‘Old World’ (you are right, idiot Bush could not have come up with this term himself) and guide the ‘decadent’ Europeans to ultimate ‘redemption’.

On the other hand, the Holy Alliance (which meant almost the whole of continental Europe listening to the various popey ones based in Rome and other places like Moscow) who saw this as part of these fellas on-going 'protests' then wanted to whack the audacious Americans for their claim to greater divinity. In any case, the Holy Alliance ‘lost’ in this case thanks to the greater powers of the British Protestant guns compared to those allied to the popes. You see, arguments of divinity are always won by the power of the sword or gun – that’s how respect is gained by such people. Those who wish protest about this little observation better get some firepower behind them, divinity has no use without such powers.

In this context, some Australians as example are quite smart – they live in Anglo-Saxon run Australia but also submit to Rome. A classic case of ‘if you are not sure hedge your bets’. But surprisingly, they don’t believe in Krishna, Kuan Yin and Mohammad lah. Ha, a ‘partial hedge’ only, what silly fellas…]

Thomas Jefferson was of course expecting the expedition to find live samples of super-large elephants. To his dismay, the expedition did not return with over-sized live elephants. But they did bring back loads more of those big bones. This time, the bones included that from the other parts of the dinosaur’s anatomy.

[Side Note:
As Steve Irwin enthusiasts would know, there is no elephants in America. The gods work in strange ways, to quote certain people. Asia and Africa have elephants and sub-humans but Rome and the west have the ‘great book’ and popey ones, and forever the twines shall never meet – according to the same Kipling fella. For the same reason, that perhaps explains why there was no China man pope.]

So, as it went, as they collected more and more of those ‘big bones’ and slowly pieced them together, the entire ‘west’ slowly began to realize that those bones were not from any animal living then. Among them was a 'notable expert’ by the name of Dr Gideon Mantell - the term ‘paleonthologist’ was not coined yet (the gods would not divulge such things ahead of their time?).

By the mid 19th century our Richard Owen had ‘hijacked’ the works of people like Mantell, and came up with the term ‘dinosaur’ (history is full of hijacking stories – see Virgin Fathers for some examples http://cckplanetblog.blogspot.com/2005/12/virgin-fathers.html).

How not to? Put those bones together and instead of long thick nose trunks, these things had long thick tails unknown to all them ‘enlightened’ fellas – even their greatest boatman that saved the entire earth in one super-boat never mentioned these different-tail things in that great flood tale! (read the Story of Nolah)

And that was how we got animals like Tyranosaurus and a whole lot of other sauruses that I cannot remember – ha, may be that is also why their great boat-man Nolah missed these animals out of his great flood tale (such undivine characteristics like mine, not impressive at all hor?).

But one particular Stegosaurus I do remember for its comparative value. Apparently, the Stegosaurus grew to a height of 10m but had a brain the size of a walnut (if you don’t believe this you go dig for the bones in America lor – we know for sure you cannot get such ‘details’ from one particular ‘great book’).

Some say that would make the Stegosaurus a really big and stupid animal. When I read that, I wondered how on earth those people figured that out. Then Richard Owen’s ‘leading comparative anatomist’ idea came to my mind.

Perhaps, these people thought that since humans are so god-like (and therefore should be ‘most smart’), anything with brain size smaller than the human’s would therefore be more stupid than human. What more if, as we can also prove from the various histories of such god-like animals, there are indeed very stupid humans with brain sizes much bigger than a walnut.

Oh gods, what size are yours that they so proudly compare their little ones to?

Perhaps I should write about the size of your Universe another day just to have some fun together…not with you the gods who surely don’t need my little fun stories, but with all those who wish to understand the limited powers of the little human brain.

[Side Note:
Richard Owen had originally enjoyed a working relationship with the younger Charles Darwin, but having been a devout Christian from the beginning, Owen saw creation as a series of experiments by a Creator, and he was outraged by Darwin's masterwork On the Origin of Species.

Mr Owen probably thought that dinosaurs were just one big godly experiment went wrong and terminated by the gods. What made Mr Owen so cock-sure he was the right experimental result of god-play, only the gods know. That is also why present day Asiatic co-believers of Mr Owen, who would otherwise not be able to tell a stegosaurus brain’s size from that of a tyrannosaurus but is as cock-sure as Mr Owen of their god-like features nevertheless, is the perennial feature in my own little ‘crusade’ to prove that their brains although bigger than a walnut is nowhere near god-like.

It is proving to be a piece of cake, which also happens to be bigger than the size of the human’s brain. ]

Where Got No Nice Con?

My first experience with a con man took place when I was a young kid growing up in a kampong house in KL – my memories of the area and the character involved in this story are still vivid. In those days, traveling vendors – mobile shops - were common and they came by at regular times and days selling things like pork, fish, veggies, pots, rojak etc. A daily regular then was the ‘roti’ man who was typically an Indian.

The particular roti man involved in this story came by in the early evenings. As part of his ‘service’ he would chat with his customers – a kind of customer relationship building – and I would hear from him ‘news’ from other neighborhoods (he was also a kind of modile CNN for people like me who did not yet know of the existence of newspapers and libraries). Over time, I got to know him as a ‘regular’, and to me he was a ‘nice man’.

One day, a couple of years later when I was about 7 years old, this roti man asked if I could lend him some money as he needed it for some purpose that I cannot now remember. He promised to pay a good 20% interest a month later. Immediately appreciating the ‘good ROR’, I lent him $5 after consulting my mother who did not object nor warn me about the ‘risks’ involved. The money was promptly returned one month later with the promised interest – not bad return and ‘what a nice man’ was what I remembered telling myself then.

My ‘nice’ roti man did that a second time and again kept his promise. On the third occasion, I was hooked and lent him my entire savings which was $20 plus (a lot of money for me then). That was the last time I saw this nice roti man of mine.

At that young age I was not fully aware of the implications of the practice of ‘fan tong san’ (literally meaning returning to the Chinese homeland but generically applied sometimes to mean returning to homeland) common to both Indian and Chinese immigrants alike. What the roti man did was before his departure home to India he had built up sufficient trust in him for gullible customers (fools) like me to part with their money as loans which he finally ran away with.

Although I lost my entire savings, I learnt some important life lessons early in life. I learnt to understand the need to understand, spot and manage risks, and to not just be skeptical of ‘nice people’ but also to spot a ‘con’. For example, I learnt to spot potential pick pockets at crowded bus stops and bus stations (a major problem in KL back when buses were so packed people had fight to get on and had to cling onto them from the sides) by the time I was a teenager. That was the reason I had never lost a wallet this way in my whole life.

I also learnt that that awareness of mine would make a difference to what happened around me. For example, at bus stops I would scan the crowd around me to pick out such people - they would also be doing their own ‘scans’ to pick out potential victims. Once I picked them out I would intentionally look at them long enough to make them realize that they were on my ‘radar’. I would do that more obviously when I knew they were joining in to ‘rush’ for the same bus I was about to take. Often times I learnt that if I gave them a sharp stare they would ‘skip’ the bus and pull out of the rush. That was how I knew that my ability to spot such people actually worked – the logic was simple, grown men choosing to miss out on their buses at a time when the frequency and level of services were terrible, and everyone else had to ‘fight’ to get on? Not so many gentlemen in KL. Not with the ‘let’s see which one to pick’ behaviors spotted earlier. In a way, I was learning from ‘history’.

The reason I am sharing this personal story is to share my views on some common comments I come across many times in various forms or contexts.

For example, I often hear comments like ‘I did not expect such and such a person to do that as he or she was so nice’, or ‘I got burnt but everything made sense to me’. My comments are always ‘how do you know the other person is nice? all con men or women are always nice to the ones conned, that is how the cons managed to work!’, and ‘every con comes with a nice/great idea and has to make some sense for it to work, and would always make most sense to those that it suckered’.

The reaction I often get after that is a ‘how do you know that you….’ look on the faces. I would then volunteer the explanation: I had experienced it before myself but mostly I learnt from others the best source of which is history. History is full of all kinds of ‘great cons & suckers that come with nice/great ideas’ which I learn from without having to directly pay for. But what amazes me is the number of suckers that continue do so despite the historical ‘evidences’ available. What I do learn is that such people are inevitably historically ignorant and cannot see from the thousands of years of recorded history that the basic characteristics of humans have not changed one bit (this is not a new idea that needs divine inspiration) – which explains why thousand year old cons still work.

Below is just one of the many divine examples I had been trying to share with people I know – these 'first world' fools always inspire me. I am sure many 3rd world fools of such 2nd hand divinity out there would be asking similar questions like above when they come across reports like this. My learning question is always the same – let me see what kind of a sucker who bought this con?

Evangelical leader agrees to resign from church

The Rev. Ted Haggard was forced out today as leader of the megachurch he founded after a board determined the influential evangelist had committed "sexually immoral conduct," the church said Saturday.

Haggard had resigned two days earlier as president of the National Association of Evangelicals, where he held sway in Washington and condemned homosexuality, after a Denver man named Mike Jones claimed to have had drug-fueled trysts with him.

"Our investigation and Pastor Haggard's public statements have proven without a doubt that he has committed sexually immoral conduct," the New Life Church's Overseer Board said in a statement.

Haggard on Friday acknowledged paying Jones for a massage and for methamphetamine, but said he did not have sex with him and did not take the drug.

The church's statement said the investigation would continue, to determine how extensive Haggard's misconduct was.

The Rev. Ross Parsley will lead the church until a permanent replacement for Haggard is chosen by the end of the year, the statement said. A letter explaining Haggard's removal and an apology from him will be read at Sunday services.

"The language of our church bylaws state that as Overseers we must decide in cases where the Senior Pastor has 'demonstrated immoral conduct' whether we must 'remove the pastor from his position or discipline him in anyway they deem necessary,"' the statement said.James Groesbeck, a church elder, said he was glad the investigative board acted quickly.

"I'm saddened by what came out, but I think they've done their job," Groesbeck said by telephone. Church members are drawing strength from one another and are caught up in the activity, but that likely will change, he said.

"I think it's going to be really difficult in a week or two," Groesbeck said.

Jones, who said he is gay, said he was upset when he discovered who Haggard was and found out that the New Life Church had publicly opposed same-sex marriage -- a key issue in Colorado, with a pair of issues on Tuesday's ballot.

"It made me angry that here's someone preaching about gay marriage and going behind the scenes having gay sex," Jones said.

Jones also said Haggard snorted methamphetamine before their sexual encounters to heighten his experience.

Haggard told reporters he bought meth but never used it; he said he received a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel. Jones said that no hotel referred Haggard and that he advertises only in gay publications.

In a TV interview this week, Haggard said: "Never had a gay relationship with anybody, and I'm steady with my wife, I'm faithful to my wife.

"Matt O'Connor, 21, a member of New Life Church for 12 years, said Saturday that he knew weathering the fallout was going to be bad, but that "we're still a church, and we are not going to fall apart."

A Happy Deepavali!

A happy Deevali/Deepavali to you.

In line with the spirit of Deevali, here’s to share some more light on Susmit’s note below:

Deevali is probably more alike the Chinese festival of Dong Jie (Winter festival) celebrated around Dec 20. Reason is they are related to the winter solstice where the northern hemisphere experiences its longest night of the year (thus need to set more lights on in case of Deevali or Deepavali).

All agrarian cultures in regions that go through the 4 seasons, winter/summer solstices can be quite easily determined by tracking where in the horizon the sun rises/sets and is already well noted for thousands of years.

In the northern hemisphere, winter solstice is significant as after this day the sun ‘begin to return’ to the northern hemisphere and brings along with it ‘life’ – plants/crops/flowers will start to grow and animals/birds will ‘return’ soon after that day (as mother earth in northern hemisphere warms up). This day is thus well known and celebrated in all great cultures from the Romans, Persians, Egyptians, Indians to Chinese for a long long time.

Over time either because societies grew ‘less’ agrarian or due to ‘calendar drifts’ as some cultures follow a non-fully solar calendar (like the Indian calendar), some cultures lost track of the ‘origins’ of such festivals and/or the day of celebration gets ‘misaligned’ with the astronomical event.

The Romans used to celebrate this event for 1 week (starting from the solstice which falls around Dec 20/21). The Christians that ‘inherited’ things from the Romans hijacked the last day of this festival for another purpose which most people today ‘ignorantly’ celebrate as X’mas.

Quiz:
If the pre-christianity Romans began their 1 week celebration on Dec 20/21, how come the ‘last day’ per the hijack above fell on Dec 25 instead of Dec 27/28? (clue: another piece of dust from history)

I say “we all need to see through the thick layer of dust covering us and discover how humans behave – how mother Nature and its greatness/beauty can be mis-interpreted/mis-represented or even manipulated by some human minds often to the long term detriment of not just ourselves but Earth itself”.

Man-made festivals aside, we should all celebrate all of Nature and all that it gives… everyday. It is that beautiful.

Hi All,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Very Happy Deepavali!

A little background for those who are ignorant as to why Deepavali is celebrated. Alike the Chinese New Year, the Hindus in India also follow a Hindu Calendar. Deepavali marks the beginning of a New Year according to the Hindu Calendar.

In India, Deepavali is also known as the festival of lights because the families decorate their houses with lots of candles and every possible light in the house is switched on. The new year is welcomed by bursting fire crackers is almost all the houses and is the highlight for most of the youngsters of the family. We also pray to the Hindu deities for fortune and good health. For almost a week after Deepavali friends and families visit each other to celebrate and eat lavish meals. The younger family members will always be given some money by the elders of the family (Another highlight of the occasion).

There is a lot more history behind the day (I will not get into it) and is referenced in the Hindu mythological book The Ramayana! For those interested can read the English translation available at the National Library. :)
